In my advanced Anatomy class, we had to do 5 anatomical illustrations. One of them was supposed to be focused on the anterior torso. I am thrilled to say I was given permission to use an etch a sketch for this one!

This one was a great challenge and a lot of fun. I started with an image of a male torso, and did an anatomical rendering with pencil of the musculature. I used references from multiple anatomy books, and had the assistance of my anatomy teacher, who has been doing anatomical illustrations for more than 20 years. The drawing was to scale with my etch a sketch.

The last and final part was taking the drawing and drawing it on my etch a sketch. The most difficult and time consuming part of this piece was etching the muscle stridations in the pectoral muscles. The mechanics of this etch a sketch were not the best, and it fought with me a lot when I tried to do those diagonal lines. I developed a technique that helped erase the right pectoral stridations, and it worked wonderfully. Then I re-etched new stridation lines, and it came out much better.

I estimate that this piece took about 6 hours. It was a great joy to work on, and I have full intentions of doing more original work on the classic-sized etch a sketch.

Etch-a-sketches are harder to erase than a lot of people might think. I just walked to school with it in my hands, and I gave the teacher a print off of a photo of it so that she could have a copy to review. Thank you very much!

Wow, this on is quite fantastic! Very well done! The striations came out wonderfully. Also, it was very kind of your teacher to have allowed you to use the Etch-A-Sketch.
