Jellyfish umbrella by pikajane Jellyfish umbrella by pikajane
I am really excited to share this one! It all started with a doodle, and blew up from there.

I got the design printed on transparencies, and spent hours cutting them out. Then I spray mounted them onto the umbrella. The tentacles of the umbrella were made with beads I got at Michael's, and the little jellyfish at the bottom of the tentacles were made using the bottom parts of easter eggs. I used paint markers to draw derpy faces on them.

The model is me :) I made a point to dress up to match my umbrella. It was photographed by the teacher at my school, and I edited to raw file.

Here's the doodle that inspired it all:

This seemed to turn out really well, I'd say. Great job. And well done with the creativity you put into it; using the Easter eggs, for example.

It's too bad the design won't stay on, though. Are you looking for a way to change that, or are you fine not having a jellyfish umbrella to take out in the poor weather?

Thank you very much!

Te main reason why the design won't stay on is because once I fold the umbrella back up, the designs will wrinkle, and the spray adhesive will peel off. I'd love to find a way to change that, but the only way I can reasonably think of doing so is to find a way to screen print on my umbrella, and I think that's a rather pricy endeavor for this. I'd love the idea of using a jellyfish umbrella all over Chicago, but I think this is destined to just be a fancy mockup.

very cool, do you use it in daily life?

Regretfully this is just a mockup--The jellyfish design on the umbrella itself are only lightly spray mounted on, meaning they will pretty easily peel off in rain.

The tentacles are currently held on using only tape, which probably also wouldn't fare so well in inclement weather. But I am thinking about keeping those on at least :) I just have to find a better way to secure them to the umbrella.

Why not mount the jellyfish designs to the underside of the umbrella since it's clear. And use a fishing line and needle to thread the tentacles to the umbrella. Being careful to find a way to seal the hole when you've finished, the line will be strong enough to hold and if you tie the ends to the wire piece near the tips it would give it extra support so it wouldn't pull directly on the plastic as much. Also applying a clear spray seal to the umbrella may help keep your awesome design attached.

Love the idea, it's really cute.
