This is the upper portion of this piece: As stated in the artwork above, this is a battle scene between my level 11 pikachu and a level 4 pidgey. I used my copy of pokemon yellow and my SP for this reference, and kept my SP plugged in until I finished it. The reason why the battle scene is stretched out is because you have the option to fit GB/GBC games to the full screen, because nintendo's older handheld game consoles had a different aspect ratio. This took approximately 2.5 hours. The most difficult part was definitely the pikachu. Even in the game it is barely possible to distinguish him from behind. It is actually very difficult for me to do 8bit-themed things on an etch-a-sketch because it requires very tedious precision. pixels are unforgiving and if you don't draw the right number of them, things won't match up right. Overall, this was an absolute joy to work on, and I am contemplating the continuation of this series into future generations of pokemon games, so that I may chronicle not only pokemon's library of games but also nintendo's library of handheld systems.
